July 6, 2023
Dear Child Care Provider,
The Iowa Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) is excited to announce a new pilot program. Starting July 5, 2023, HHS will implement a one-year pilot program which allows the child care workforce to apply for Child Care Assistance (CCA) for their own children even if they are over the family income limit. To be eligible for the pilot program an individual must:
Work at least 32 hours per week in a direct care position at a licensed center, or is registered as a child development home provider or as a non-registered child care home accepting CCA.
To be approved the family must meet all other CCA eligibility criteria excluding household income. To learn more about the other CCA eligibility criteria please see the Frequently Asked Questions document below.
If an individual is approved for CCA under this pilot program the individual’s child must be cared for by someone other than the parent/guardian. For example, if a registered Child Development Home provider were to apply the child would need to be cared for by a different child care provider.
Additional information can be found in this document:
If you still have questions you may contact the Centralized Child Care Assistance Unit at ccaapps@dhs.state.ia.us or 866-448-4605.
Individuals interested in applying may submit an application through the online portal or you can access a printable application on our Child Care Assistance webpage.
Data on the pilot program will be provided to legislators next session to determine the continuation of the program past the pilot phase.
Warm regards, Ryan Page Director of Child Care Division of Family Well-Being and Protection Iowa Department of Health and Human Services
