Fingerprint Processing

September 28, 2022

Dear Child Development Home Providers, Child Care Center Directors, CCA Providers, and Partners,

The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and the Criminal History Record Dissemination Unit has updated their fingerprinting process. We anticipate this new process to be effective on or about November 1, 2022.

FieldPrint, Inc will be the new preferred entity for all of the following:

  • New child care center staff
  • Existing child care center staff
  • New and Existing Child Development Home providers
  • CCA paid child care home providers
  • Persons over the age of 18 that reside in a child care home or Child Development Home

Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is the lead agency over child care licensing and regulations and is required to meet federal legislation. This new partnership will allow HHS to continue to move forward in meeting federal regulations through streamlined and improved processing times of record checks.

The use of FieldPrint to capture digital fingerprints that will transmit to DCI in real-time through Livescan will allow for quicker turnaround time for results, assisting employers to hire employees faster and for child development homes to register or renew their registration sooner. The use of Livescan machine also reduces fingerprint rejection rates, reducing the likelihood that fingerprints will have to be rolled again.

You can review FieldPrint locations and hours on their website. Iowa has 38 locations, within approximately a 30-minute drive with some night and weekend hours available, depending on location.

When using FieldPrint there is NO COST to all providers!

?While you are not required to use FieldPrint, you are highly encouraged to do so as it will expedite the hiring process and there will be no cost to you. More information can be found at FieldPrint Iowa Businesses and FieldPrint Iowa Individuals.

Please be assured that we are prepared to assist you in this transition process and we anticipate some learning curves along the way. We will be in continued communication with our providers, recognizing there is a difference in the operations of our home-based child care providers and our child care centers.

?We appreciate everything you do and the quality of care you continue to provide. Thank you for being adaptive with us as we continue to partner across state agencies and work to improve Iowa’s child care system.

Sincerely,

Ryan Page
