It is that time of year where we shower the special women in our lives with appreciation for all they do for us and our families; that’s right Mother’s Day is right around the corner! Most of us with young children, however, have at least one other woman (and sometimes man) that we need to thank even more for their endless time and energy they give our young families each and every week. I am talking about our child care providers!
Each year we celebrate Provider Appreciation Day, the Friday before Mother’s Day. It is a day that we show appreciation for all child care providers, the early childhood educators that nurture our children and in most cases, help us become better parents as well! They are educators, chefs, nurses, nurturers and so much more in one package. Providers are ready each day when we drop off our children - ready to play a critical role in helping build children’s brains by providing a safe, caring, nurturing and engaging early learning environment. They choose this career because they care more about children than they do the money, hours and energy involved in the business, and for that, we are thankful for each and every one of them!
I also encourage child care providers to participate in Child Care Resource & Referral’s (CCR&R) statewide campaign to bring awareness to Provider Appreciation Day by requesting appreciation day stickers for parents to wear to work on May 10th. CCR&R wants to show communities and businesses that families in your program would not be able to work without child care.
