Notice from DHS

Child care providers are required to take the 12-hour Pre-Service/Orientation Essential Child Care Preservice Series. When this opportunity was developed and implemented, you were also advised that this would count towards your total professional development hours the first time it was taken and that you would be required to renew the series every 5 years.

In an effort to reduce the burden of duplicating professional development requirements for everyone and to assure that credit is earned when completed, the Department has modified these requirements.

Effective December 11, 2019:

You will NOT be required to re-take the Essential Child Care Preservice Series; however: If you CHOOSE to take the series again and 5 years has passed, it will count towards your total credit hours for that year, which aligns with all other professional development opportunities.

We recognize the time commitment that you make when you and your employees invest in professional development requirements.

Please go to the DHS Child Care Provider Training Registry to see other professional development opportunities that are available.
