Who likes annual reports and numbers? Dry reading with data that is hard to decipher... blechy! But numbers for the Child Care Resource & Referral (CCR&R) data team is like a pig finding mud... it's their happy place!
The data team works all year long to collect information about child care programs throughout Iowa. This data is valuable to employers and community members to help them understand the child care needs in their area. It is also important to have accurate information for parents who are looking for quality child care.
The CCR&R Annual Report takes data that has been collected to give a snapshot of information regarding child care in Iowa. It reflects the numbers of on-site consultation visits and technical assistance made to programs, the number of trainings that were offered and taken by providers and the services offered to families who were looking for care. It also discusses the current number of providers who participate in the Iowa Quality Rating System (QRS) throughout Iowa. QRS is a voluntary program that is a 5 level rating system available to registered Child Development Homes, licensed Child Care Centers and preschools. It is a program that shows that a provider or center is committed to providing quality care by going beyond registration and licensing requirements.
This report also addresses the importance of child care options in every community and how that community can grow when they support child care. It discusses Child Care Deserts – where there are limited child care programs available to families. This lack of child care affects more than just the family looking for care - it can affect employers who are seeing high turnover rates and absenteeism, and communities that are looking to attract and retain businesses in their area.
The Annual Report is distributed to state legislators, community groups and funders to show the impact our services have on quality child care in Iowa.
